What is a Site Licence?
A Site Licence is an official document issued by Health Canada to facilities engaged in manufacturing, packaging, labeling, or importing Natural Health Products. These facilities must demonstrate compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and meet the safety and hygiene standards established by the Canadian government to obtain a Site Licence.
A Site Licence provides a designated 6-digit identifying number for that site (a site licence number). A valid Site Licence must be held by all facilities involved in manufacturing, packaging, labeling, and/or importing NHPs for Canadian regulatory compliance.
A Site Licence specifies the approved activities for that particular facility as recognized by the Canadian government.

Site Licences need to be renewed each year until the Licence has been held for 3 years.
Once a Site Licence has been held for 3 years, it must be renewed every 2 years.
Once held for 9 years, it must be renewed every 3 years.
In this instance, it is the responsibility of the Canadian Importer to provide evidence that the imported products AND the foreign site where the products were imported from, meet Canadian GMP regulations.
Depending on the type and quantity of evidence of GMP compliance provided to Health Canada, Site Licences will be received between 30-90 business days following application submission.
